Within the H2020 framework, we selected four different uses for silicon nitride integrated photonics to show the feasibility of PIX4life for real, commercial applications with low and medium volumes.
Multi-source laser engine: developed together with TOPTICA Photonics AG.
TOPTICA Photonics is developing a multi-source laser engine for microscopy applications. The MSLE combines different wavelengths in the visible range that are commonly used in these applications. However, this technology can be extended to other wavelengths as well.
Sensors for life-sciences, automotion and chemistry: developed together with Robert Bosch GmbH.
Bosch is developing a fully integrated bio-sensor aiming to apply this technology in different sectors. By opening an area over the photonic integrated circuit, the light will sense the change when the optical waveguide is exposed to different molecules. By using several sensors it is possible to calibrate the system from false positive measurements.
Compact cytometer: developed together with MACS Miltenyi Biotec.
Together with TOPTICA, MACS Miltenyi Biotec is developing a flow cytometer. With this technology it is possible to count the size of cells passing through the optical beam.
