DESCRIPTION

PIX4life is an EU funded project which offers a full supply chain from design to manufacturing and packaging of Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs), specially targeting life-science applications. The project is developing a high performance, high yielding and CMOS-processing compatible Silicon Nitride (SiN) PIC pilot line for applications in the visible range (400nm-1000nm).

Photonics has become critical to life sciences. However, the field is far from benefiting fully from photonics' capabilities. Today, bulky and expensive optical systems dominate biomedical photonics, even though robust optical functionality can be realized cost-effectively on PICs. Although proof-of-concept demonstrations for PICs in life sciences using visible wavelengths are abundant, the gating factor for wider adoption is limited in resource capacity.

PIX4life pilot line aims to facilitate R&D in biophotonics, by helping companies and universities bridge the gap between research and industrial development. The project consortium of 15 members, consisting of leading European research and industrial institutions, is developing the pilot line which covers all aspects of PIC prototyping and manufacturing supply chain from conception to designing, and fabrication to packaging.    

The goal of this webinar is to introduce PIC technology for life-sciences and PIX4life’s role in bringing greater accessibility to this technology. The webinar will attempt to answer the following questions:

  • What are PICs and their life science applications?
  • What is PIX4life and its goals?
  • What is PIX4life pilot line and the technology options it offers?
  • How to access the pilot line?

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The webinar is relevant for anyone who is interested in photonic integrated circuit (PIC) technology for life-science applications. This webinar is a general overview of the technology and PIX4life project. There is no prerequisite minimum qualification requirement.
