PIX4life is the world’s first open access pilot line for Photonic Integrated Circuits (PIC’s) targeting life science applications in the visible range.

What are PIC’s

Photonic Integrated Circuits or PICs are miniaturized optical circuits based on transparent waveguides of dimensions close to the wavelength of the guided light. Similar to an electronic chip, photonic PICs are enabling many new applications not possible before.
Visible light PICs can be utilized for many different applications such as spectroscopy, metrology or sensing. PIX4life developed a series of demonstrators for optical based sensing (in coordination with Bosch), for cell counting or cytometry (in coordination with MACs Miltenyi) and for multi-wavelength laser engines (in coordination with Toptica Photonics AG). However, many other applications can take advantage of this enabling technology.
